Come and join our afterschool Contemporary Dance Class. This is for St Joseph’s Primary school Students in Malmesbury only. We will be introducing students to the basics of Contemporary dance, inspired by a mix of styles such as Release, Cunningham and Graham. The classes will also be drawing from the structure of the Rambert Grades curriculum and pedagogy. There will be opportunity for students to create their own movements with a view to choreographing dances to be shared with family and friends.
Classes take place every Wednesday from 3:25 – 4:30pm during term time in St Joseph’s Primary School hall.
Cost: £7:50 per class
Fees are paid per half-term. To sign up for classes please click on the link below to go to our payment portal or email us at [email protected].
What to expect?
Each class will include simple movement games and sequences to help us learn how to move our bodies in new ways. Classes will include time for learning and creating our own choreography, in response to a theme. We may have a class sharing of work with family and friends when the students feel ready.
What to bring?
Bring a water bottle and a snack to keep your energy going?
What to wear?
Please avoid leaving your child to dance in their school uniform by sending them to school with a change of clothes.
We recommend comfortable clothes such as t-shirts and leggings or tracksuit bottoms. Students can also wear a leotard and leggings. No special footwear is required as dancing feet are best left bare!
Who will be teaching?
All classes will be taught by local dancer Synaet Nin Owen. Click on this link to find out more about her dance training and experience.
Why We Think Dancing is Important for Children!
We believe that dance can play an important role in helping children to develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. In our dance club, we aim to facilitate activities that:
- provide a safe space chance where children can have fun without the pressure of having to get something right.
- encourage individual and group creativity, and imagination.
- provide an outlet for children to express ideas, thoughts and emotions.
- help children develop confidence and self esteem.
- help children to develop their physical and spatial awareness.
- practice short term memory skills as they learn and create movement sequences.
- encourage problem solving individually and with others.
- help children learn how to work effectively with others as there will be times when they will work creatively on a task in pairs or in a group.
