The Ugly Ducking

After the Easter break we are going to be exploring Hans Christian Andersons classic tale The Ugly Duckling. There are many versions of this story – we have chosen a wordless version by artist James Mayhew for the artwork (click on this link to see more of the pictures). As we move through the term each class will be developing their story telling skills through movement ready to share some of the story with parents at the end of term.

Born different, the ugly duckling is mocked by his siblings, rejected by other ducks, and even shunned by his own mother. The sad little bird leaves home, starting a journey where he is jeered at and hunted as he struggles to survive on his own–only to discover that the identity he longed for was within him all along.
The Northern Ballet Company have choreographed their own version of this story for children. You can view the trailer below and watch more on CBeebies if you have a TV license:

Our Creative Ballet classes start from age 3 years and are held at Sutton Benger Village Hall on Thursdays after school during term time.

We currently have 3 levels of classes and children move up through the classes according to age and ability.
